Special qualifications.

During his subspecialty fellowship, Dr. Taggart trained under the tutelage of Dr. Melvin Lewis, a globally recognized professor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Yale and editor-in-chief of the seminal textbook, "Lewis's Child and Adolescent Psychiatry." He also trained under international autism expert Dr. Fred Volkmar, and OCD and tic authority Dr. James Leckman. Dr. Taggart contributed as a chapter author in "Appleton and Lange's Review of Psychiatry," a critical board exam review guide for psychiatrists, and has authored multiple research publications.

In 2022, at the University of California San Diego School of Medicine, Dr. Taggart underwent a comprehensive clinical knowledge and proficiency evaluation. Dr. Taggart successfully passed all testing sections, as confirmed by the UCSD School of Medicine Examiners. Dr. Taggart also achieved the following distinctions:

  • In summary commentary on the Oral Clinical Examination section of his testing, Dr. Taggart’s examiners noted his clinical knowledge base as "in the superior range," and that “he keeps abreast of the latest psychiatric literature and is quite well-read.”

  • In summary commentary on the Standardized Patient Evaluation section of testing, his examiners added that “he deserves credit for his thoughtful and patient approach to psychoeducation,” and he “maintains a professional demeanor and shows persistence and patience.”

  • Examiners also included general commendations in their commentary, for instance highlighting Dr. Taggart's "superior level interviewing skills" and describing him as "patient and empathic."

Dr. Taggart also scored significantly above the average of his peers on the rigorous National Board of Medical Examiners written examination, given as an additional section of the UCSD program testing.

This entire comprehensive evaluation by the UCSD School of Medicine program is documented and on file with the Virginia Board of Medicine.
